- Mr. Bessa Simons, a veteran Highlife artist, has been chosen to lead the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
- Out of the 390 legitimate votes cast, he received 324 votes, defeating Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, his lone opponent, who received 66.
- Abena Ruthy, a gospel singer, received 277 votes as well to win the position of 2nd Vice President, and Samuel Kofi Agyemang received 343 votes to secure the position of General Secretary.
- First Vice President, Treasurer, Welfare, and Organiser candidates faced no competition. Due to protracted legal disputes, the MUSIGA elections were repeatedly put off. Mr. Bessa Simons served as acting president of the union until the elections were finally held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
- His triumph is essentially a vote of confidence in the person who wants to protect artists’ rights and advance MUSIGA’s reputation in the next years.
- Bessa has collaborated with some of the biggest names in West African music, including Pat Thomas, Papa Yankson, Kari Bannerman, Osibisa, C.K. Mann, Ebo Taylor, and Gyedu Blay Ambolley. She is a prolific songwriter, keyboardist, vocalist, and musician.
- His father was a choir master, organist, and music teacher, therefore he was born into a family of musicians. Bessa participated in the school band while attending Aggrey Boarding School in Cape Coast.
