- Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif was detained on Wednesday night at the Kotoka International Airport after Cruise People Limited filed a fraud charge against him. After receiving an advance payment of $20,000, he was supposed to appear on a cruise beginning on August 19, 2023, but he apparently failed to supply promotional films for the event.
- A contract issue resulted from the cruise company’s demand for a reimbursement of $50,000 rather than the original deposit. The representatives and attorneys for Black Sherif are attempting a peaceful resolution.
- In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy Prime, Cruise People Ltd. CEO Daniel Vanderpuye explained how he had Black Sherif detained and why the company is suing him for breach of contract. He claimed that despite receiving a $20,000 advance payment, Black Sherif did not deliver promotional films for the cruise event, Afro Cruise Jam, that he was scheduled to play at on August 19, 2023.
- In addition, he said that Black Sherif’s management rejected calls from the Ghana Police and disregarded Amakye Dede and Gramps Morgan’s pleas for help. He asserted that he experienced damages as a result of paying for the media broadcast, the cruise ship accommodations, and other non-refundable arrangements.
- He asked for a return of $50,000 rather than the initial deposit.
- Black Sherif has not responded publicly to the allegations made by Cruise People Ltd. He was reportedly arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on July 19, 2023, and released on bail on July 17, 2023. He was expected to meet with the Ghana Police Service and Cruise People Ltd on July 20, 2023, to mediate the contract dispute.
