- Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah was issued a letter of interdiction in connection with the legislative committee’s investigation into the leaked recording, and the Ghana Police Service has now placed him under a prohibition. Kweku Owusu Agyemang, the attorney representing COP Mensah, asserted that the COP was not invited to signify an ongoing investigation or internal probe into the claims made by numerous witnesses before the legislative committee looking into the allegedly leaked recording.
- Three senior officers have been detained, according to the Ghana Police Service, for their suspected involvement in a controversial audio tape that purportedly contained a conspiracy to remove the Inspector General of Police. The three officers have been placed on interdiction while additional disciplinary actions are taken in line with Police Service regulations, according to a statement signed and released by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Police Public Affairs.
- COP Mensah emphasized that the squad will soon release a statement on the interdiction while maintaining their composure in the face of the choice. His client is not in the military and has been on leave in preparation for retirement for nearly four months, therefore he is alright.
- The attorney representing Sup. George Asare, Alfred Paapa Darkwa, maintains that the interdiction is not only difficult but also disrespectful. He indicated that the Police Service is powerless to take action against witnesses testifying before Parliament.
- Rtd COP Bright Oduro, a former director general of the Police Criminal Investigations Department, believes the Service’s decision is premature. He feels that the Police Council or the IGP should have given the IGP the go-ahead to interdict the officers, and that if the officers had engaged in wrongdoing themselves, he would have requested a service inquiry.
- Additionally, Oduro stated that if the charges made against the Police Service and in particular the IGP are accurate, it would have been preferable for the inquiry to be over and for the police administration to choose an alternative course of action.
