- After a cruise ship concert in Athens was canceled, Ghanaian singer Black Sherif and Cruise People Limited filed a lawsuit, which was dismissed by the Adenta High Court.
- The dispute stemmed from Black Sheriff’s alleged violation of a performance contract. An agreement was made between Cruise People Limited and Black Sheriff for a performance aboard a cruise ship in Athens, Greece on August 19, 2023. Nevertheless, the agreement was cancelled prior to the show’s planned date.
- Daniel Vanderpuye, the promoter of Cruise People Ltd., claimed that Black Sheriff had violated publicity rights and requested a US$20,000 return.
- Black Sheriff refused the reimbursement, claiming that Cruise People Ltd. had unilaterally terminated the contract and demanding payment.
- Black Sheriff filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the contract’s dispute resolution provision required that any disagreement resulting from the agreement be resolved only in the United Kingdom.
- The complaint was dismissed by the court on the grounds that it was filed in the incorrect venue and that the parties want all problems arising therefrom to be settled in the United Kingdom.
