- If there was any collusion between the Turkish government and the 2021 campaign of New York City Mayor Eric Adams to obtain illicit foreign money, it is the subject of a corruption probe by federal authorities.
- Federal officials raided the Brooklyn, New York, home of former Adams campaign contributor Brianna Suggs, sparking the start of the inquiry.
- A copy of the search warrant was acquired by The New York Times, which also said that authorities are looking for more evidence on the potential involvement of a Washington, D.C. university with connections to both Turkey and Adams, as well as a Brooklyn construction business.
- According to the order, investigators want to know if Adams’ campaign “kicked back benefits” for Turkish authorities and workers at the construction business.
- The Southern District of New York U.S. Attorney’s spokesman declined to comment on the situation. A witness who was in the area of Suggs’ home on Thursday morning reported seeing individuals donning FBI jackets loading things into a minivan.
- During Adams’ first mayoral campaign, Suggs served as his top fundraiser and head of logistics, receiving almost $150,000 for her efforts. After learning of the search at her residence, Adams left Washington, D.C., where he was supposed to speak with White House officials on the migrant crisis and returned to New York City.
