- The busiest airport in the world for international travel, Dubai, is experiencing significant flooding following heavy rainfall, so flights coming this evening are being temporarily diverted to other places.
- The average annual rainfall in the arid nation was above 120mm (4.7 inches) in Dubai on Tuesday, and more is predicted in the next several hours.
- Roads and homes were inundated, and automobiles that were only partially submerged were abandoned. The Dubai airport’s tarmac was inundated as well as jets circled what seemed to be a lake.
- It was previously reported that poor weather caused a 25-minute halt to airport operations. During the day, at least 21 outward and 24 incoming flights were canceled, and three planes were rerouted to alternate airports.
- The airport stated that departures are still happening in spite of the inconvenience.
- Lightning blazed across the sky, occasionally touching the top of the Burj Khalifa, the highest structure on Earth.
- Although it is uncommon, rain does occasionally fall during the colder winter months in the United Arab Emirates, a federation of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.
- Due to the absence of consistent rainfall, many roads and other locations have inadequate drainage, which results in floods.
- Following a period of intense rain, police and emergency workers were observed driving slowly through the flooded streets, and tanker trucks were dispatched to remove the water from the streets.
