- The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has been sued by at least 40 police chief inspectors in the Ghana Police Service for what they claim is the unjustified denial of their promotion.
- The police officers allege in a petition filed with the High Court in Kumasi that they have been denied opportunities for promotion as a result of the service’s decision to provide special amnesty to police personnel who had earned degrees prior to 2020 after they had joined the service.
- They claim that despite having between 25 and 30 years of service, the police administration promoted their less-experienced colleagues under the same amnesty but refused to let them enroll in the Police Academy to help them advance to assistant superintendents of police (ASP).
- The 40 plaintiffs are requesting that the court order the IGP and the other defendants to promote them, give them direct access to the Police Academy, and further compensate them for the lost income they suffered as a result of their inability to receive promotions.
