- The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has approved the procurement of a transaction advisor to help dispose of the Saglemi Housing project, a 5000-unit public housing project in Prampram.
- The project is to be sold to a private sector entity at the current value, completing and selling the housing units to the public at no further cost to the government. The Ministry of Works and Housing has set up a technical working group to oversee and stay at all engagements required for the completion of the housing project.
- The project, which was initially intended to provide mortgage arrangements for housing units to be sold to employees, has been delayed and setbacks. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that the technical working group aims to ensure transparency and guarantee value for money towards the project’s completion. The lessons learned from the Saglemi Housing project have been invaluable in shaping the approach and execution of the new housing initiative.
- The government is aware of the delays and setbacks encountered during the project’s execution and has taken issues about the scope of work and money expended to the criminal investigations division of the Ghana Police Service for investigation.
- However, the Ministry of Works and Housing has actively engaged Cabinet, the Minister of Finance, and the Office of the Attorney General on the project’s completion.
- In addition to the $198 million already expended, the government has raised $56 million to complete offsite infrastructure works, including water, electricity, and storm drains to mitigate flooding.
- A further $68 million is required to complete buildings and other essential on-site infrastructure works, such as the waste holding bay, sewage treatment plant, and the development of socio, economic, and civic infrastructure such as a basic school, a clinic, and shops.
