- Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN) National President Emeka Rollas has said that well-known Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, passed away from cardiac arrest.
- On Saturday night, Rollas shared the news of Mr. Ibu’s passing on his Instagram page. He said that the AGN was having a terrible day and that his passing was unfortunate.
- “According to Mr. Don Single Nwuzor, Mr. Ibu’s manager of 24 years, Mr. Ibu experienced a heart attack. I regret to inform you that Mr. Ibu was unable to make it. “May his soul find peace,” he said.
- The actor disclosed in October 2023 that he had a medical condition that could require him to amputate one of his legs. He claimed that while working with other Nollywood actors and actresses on a movie set, he became aware of the issue.
- In order to pay for his medical expenses, Mr. Ibu had made a request for prayers and money from his followers and the general public. In addition, he uploaded a video of himself expressing his dread of losing his limb while laying in a hospital bed.
- After enduring a disease that necessitated seven surgeries, Okafor had his leg amputated in November 2023. According to his family, the amputation was performed in order to prolong his life and improve his prognosis.
- Mr. Ibu performed in almost 200 Nollywood productions, such as Police Recruit (2003), 9 Wives (2005), Ibu in Prison (2006), Mr. Ibu (2004), Mr. Ibu 2 (2005), Mr. Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, International Players, Mr. Ibu in London (2005), and Keziah (2007).
