- Laryea Kingston, a former Ghanaian celebrity, led the winning team and showed promise in his first significant role. Kingston’s tactical skills paid off as the Black Starlets applied constant pressure, which led to goals from Godfred Sarpong, Mark Kagawa Mensah, and Joseph Narbi, as well as a brace from Narbi.
- Ivory Coast had early opportunities, but they were unable to take use of them, which let Ghana control the game until the very end. With better control, Ghana took the lead after a brace from Narbi and added more shortly after the half through a goal from Sarpong.
- An Ivorian consolation goal was ineffective as Gbafa answered right away, and Mensah’s forceful contribution later ensured a resounding victory for the hosts. With this historic triumph, Ghana has a dominant position in Group A and is getting closer to qualifying for the semifinals before facing Benin in their final match.
